DA077 "Horse” Original Watercolour Painting by Jacqueline Hill
We had a lovely stallion on our farm where I grew up. He was an ex-racehorse called Champ. Grandma wouldn't let anyone ride him because he was too hard in the bit and she reckoned it would be too dangerous. But I became best of friends with him anyway, I would brush him down and he loved it. I'd go to the paddock gate after school and call out "Champ! Champ!" And he'd come galloping full pelt with his mane and tail flying, from the bottom of the paddock up to greet me. We spent hours talking together.
